The Video Platform Grants The Community Authority to Limit AI-Generated Videos in Timelines

The platform is rolling out a fresh option that permits them to cut down on the quantity of artificial intelligence-produced videos appearing in their streams. This move comes as the platform disclosed that it now features more than 1 billion content made with AI.

Testing and Rollout

The update is undergoing trials over the next few weeks before a global launch. This shift coincides with a rise in AI content, driven by recent video-generation tools.

The Broader AI Trend

Studies have shown that nearly one in 10 of the most rapidly expanding video streams on another major platform exclusively feature AI-generated videos. A large amount of this material is deemed low-quality AI content, a phrase for inferior, factory-style content that is often illogical or dreamlike.

Based on user feedback that a lot of users like content made with AI tools, from digital art to educational videos, and we aim to offer the community the option to see more or less of that, based on their own likes,” stated a company executive.

Scale of AI Content

The service shared that there are currently 1.3bn videos on its service labeled as AI-generated. In total, over 100 mn pieces of content are added to the service each day, making AI content a limited portion of its complete catalog.

User Control Features

Members will be capable of reduce or increase the amount of artificial media they view by accessing the “manage topic” feature in the app and picking AI-made media. Additional categories that are already be modified under the filter include news, style, beauty, and choreography.

AI Disclosure Rules

The platform’s guidelines mandate content makers to label lifelike artificially created content, and it forbids harmful AI impersonations of celebrities or emergencies. Any realistic AI-generated clip that is unmarked can be taken down under its user guidelines.

Furthermore, the platform will now apply an “AI-made” tag to content produced via its proprietary AI systems, or identified by an industry-wide initiative for recognizing AI-generated material. This step is intended to deter users from seeking to circumvent the labeling process.

Educational Initiatives

TikTok is also introducing a $2m educational fund for experts and groups to produce educational content about responsible artificial intelligence. This project will assist educational bodies specializing in educating computer science.

Platform Protection

The platform has defended its safety measures, amid debate over plans to make redundant a large number of safety staff in the UK. TikTok is set to reduce a significant number of roles in its trust and safety department in its British office, with labor groups and internet security professionals raising concerns that staff are being displaced by machine-led review.

A trust and safety lead clarified that human moderation would still have a role, but automated tools can safeguard staff by eliminating the most distressing content before it is viewed by humans. The company stated a notable drop in shocking and graphic content seen by safety staff over the previous year due to reliance on its machine learning processes.

We believe it is crucial to integrate staff and AI to maintain a secure environment,” the executive stated. “We’ll have people as part of that process, but we further consider it’s extremely critical to limit contact with harmful content as swiftly, which is why a significant AI assistance is proving valuable process content quickly.”
