Skydiving Instructor Dies Following Plummeting Without Safety Gear in Music City

Emergency Situation Rescue Operation
Nashville Fire Department reported it used multiple ladders and a rescue mechanism to rescue the client

The Federal Aviation Administration is looking into the death of a parachuting trainer after he became separated from his student during a dive in Music City, TN.

Authorities say instructor Justin Fuller "is presumed to have dropped from the air without a safety chute" during the jump on the weekend.

Fuller, 35 years old, appeared to have detached from his client and a tandem rig, which links the two during a jump and includes the parachute.

A law enforcement aircraft found the instructor's remains in a wooded area some time after. Local emergency crews used multiple pieces of equipment to access the middle-aged student who survived the descent after being trapped on a tree branch for hours with the backup chute.

Police stated three other dives, which occurred near a local airport, were carried out without incident prior to the deadly incident. Aircraft from which they leaped also touched down without issue.

The cause remains unknown how Mr Fuller, an experienced skydiver, became separated from the protective gear.

A individual who helped rescue teams in the rescue told a local television station the student who officials saved said "he was a first-time jumper, and it was going to be his final one".

The instructor had recently written about his enthusiasm for teaching others how to parachute.

"Teaching people to skydive has always been in my opinion the most rewarding role at the jump site," Mr Fuller said in an social media update in the summer.

"Watching them learn the skills and start flying their selves is always a touching experience. Sometimes though, it can become quite chaotic up there when you release a student for their first time."

That same month he posted images of the wreckage a skydiving plane he was on noting the plane's engine had failed after take off. Every individual aboard lived through the incident.
